10th May 2009

It has been raining since Saturday morning and that’s why the weather is terribly cold again. Therefore, most of us stay in school to do our projects. I went to the DPU’s library again to take the measurements of the tables and chairs. On the way there, I realized that the lift is down so have to use the stairs.

8th May 2009

We were supposed to go to some food factory today but we informed that design students are not going as in is not related to us. Everyone was happy about it as last week we went to Doerte food factory and we did get to see much. Reasons being that the trips was meant for the Chemical Life Science students. So it’s an extra holiday for us today. We went to the victory shopping centre and we were so busy shopping that we forgot to take some photo of the shopping places. Only two pictures were taken during lunch time.

7th May 2009

There is a talk given by the lecturer DPU this afternoon. It’s a talk about design. After the talk, we exchange the differences of how design lessons are conducted in Singapore Polytechnic and Dalian. The lecturer shared his views of design and art. We went for another sculptures exhibition after the talk.

6th May 2009

3rd week in Dalian for Immersion programme. We went to the practice room of sculptures after our lunch. It’s a messy room with old equipments but the work pieces there are very well made. We also got to see the ugly “Skeletons” of those sculptures.

We went to the Gold Coast of Dalian. It’s just next to The discoveries world (A theme park). The beach is much cleaner than what I expected. Not much people there as the weather is cold.

During our lunch break, we went to watch DPU’s spring sports meet. We were also invited to participate in the sports meet but none of us did because we were behind time for our projects.

We went back to DPU’s library which is also the given site for our project. We did our site study of the night time and realized that there are more students using the space towards the night time.

27th April 2009

Weekend passed so fast, its Monday again. Have to wake up early for lesson again. Our class room in DPU is next to the school’s main gate only. The worst thing is that DPU is just next to the airport. Lecturer has to pause whenever the plane is taking off and landing. Here is some picture taken in our classroom.

Today we went to cherry blossom park. Only half of the students went as it is a optional trip.

We went to Dalian modern museum this morning. What is displayed in the museum is the past, present and future of Dalian. After the museum’s tour, we went to the resort for China government’s officers. The trip was quite boring as it raining and some activities were canceled.

The rain finally stopped. The school organized a tour to the Dalian Ascendas IT park.

21st April 2009

Lesson starts today. In the morning, my friends and I went to a restaurant next to the school for our breakfast. We enjoyed the food there. Then we went for our GEMS lesson. For our GEMS, we learnt about the culture and economic of Dalian.

20th April 2009

It’s still raining today. We went to the student’s canteen for our breakfast in the morning. The canteen is a nice place but the food there are not. Next, we followed a local teacher for a tour around DPU. First, we went to the library where we had a brief introduction of the school. Then, we went to their design block. We also meet our DPU’s buddy there and they bring us around the design block to let us have a better idea of the whole place.

We also have the opening ceremony of the Immersion programme on the same day.

Leaving Singapore to China, Dalian for Immersion programme.

After 5 ½ hours of flight, we finally reached Beijing airport and took another 1 hour to reach Dalian’s airport. When we reached Dalian, it’s raining. Then we took the bus to Dalian Polytechnic University (DPU). Due to the long travelling time and the bad weather most of the students looked down-hearted but everyone’s mood changed once they saw the hotel-like hostel.
